This is Part 6, the final installment in the series born from Standing at the Edge of Eternity: A Testament of Love, God, and the Infinite. Here we explore how love itself mirrors God’s eternal nature and why it will endure long after time has ended.
Love Never Ends
The Apostle Paul wrote: “Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away.” (1 Corinthians 13:8)
Everything temporary will be consumed by eternity. But love—genuine love—will not be consumed. It will be fulfilled. Completed. Set free from every limitation that time and flesh impose upon it.
Why Love Is Eternal
Love is eternal because its source is eternal. God is love—not in a greeting-card sense but in a metaphysical sense. Love is not just something God does. It is something God is. It is His nature, His motion, the expression of His triune inner life flowing outward into creation.
When we love—truly, selflessly, sacrificially—we are not generating something from within ourselves. We are participating in something that originates in God. We are conduits of the eternal, briefly visible in time.
Love as Evidence
This is why love is so disorienting when it is genuine. It feels like it comes from somewhere beyond us. It makes us capable of things we didn’t know we could do. It reaches past our limitations and our fears and our damage and does something that defies the laws of self-interest.
That is eternity breaking through the membrane of time. It is God’s nature briefly made visible in human form.
What Eternity Does to Love
In eternity, all the obstacles that constrain love here—mortality, misunderstanding, selfishness, fear, distance, time itself—will be removed. What remains will be love operating at full capacity in a soul fully prepared to give and receive it.
The love you have known here—the best of it, the truest of it—is the seed. Eternity is the harvest.
A Closing Word
This series began with a child standing at the edge of something infinite and trembling. It ends here, with the recognition that the infinite is not a void. It is love—boundless, creative, eternal love—that has been reaching toward us since before we had names.
And it will not stop.
