đ Eyes on Jesus
âTherefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnessesâŠâ (v.1)
The Hall of Faith was never just historyâit was a stadium.
We are on the track, and they’re watching, cheering.
â…let us lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closelyâŠâ
Not just sin.
Weight.
Even good things can become burdens if they slow your run.
Lay them down.
â…and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us…â
Not someone elseâs race.
Yours.
Set by God. Tailored for you.
đ The Author and Finisher
â…looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faithâŠâ (v.2)
He didnât just design the race.
He ran itâand finished it.
â…who for the joy that was set before him endured the crossâŠâ
What joy?
You.
He endured, because He saw your redemption.
That was His joy.
â…despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.â
Shame couldn’t hold Him.
And if youâre in Him, it wonât hold you either.
đ©č Discipline = Love
âMy son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the LordâŠâ (v.5)
Discipline isnât punishment.
Itâs proof youâre His.
âFor the Lord disciplines the one he lovesâŠâ (v.6)
This world disciplines with anger.
God disciplines with love.
âHe disciplines us for our good, that we may share his holiness.â (v.10)
Thatâs the goal.
Not comfort.
Not applause.
Holiness.
âFor the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasantâŠâ (v.11)
Yes, it does.
But wait for the fruit.
đïž Strengthen Your Weak Knees
âTherefore lift your drooping hands and strengthen your weak kneesâŠâ (v.12)
Heâs not yelling at the weary.
Heâs coaching the tired.
âGet up. Donât quit. Youâre almost there.â
âMake straight paths for your feetâŠâ (v.13)
No detours. No games.
Walk the narrow road, and youâll arrive safely.
đ„ The Warning
âSee that no one fails to obtain the grace of GodâŠâ (v.15)
Yes, even grace can be missedânot because itâs withheld,
but because it’s ignored.
â…that no âroot of bitternessâ springs upâŠâ
Bitterness infects communities like poison ivy in a garden.
Uproot it early.
đ Not Like Sinai⊠But Zion
You didnât come to the mountain that terrified IsraelâŠ
â…a blazing fire and darkness and gloomâŠâ (v.18)
InsteadâŠ
âYou have come to Mount Zion⊠the city of the living GodâŠâ (v.22)
This is so powerful:
â…innumerable angels in festal gatheringâŠâ
A celebration in Heaven.
Not fear.
Joy.
â…to the spirits of the righteous made perfect…â
â…and to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant…â (v.23â24)
You arenât just visiting this Kingdom.
Youâre part of it.
đ The Shaking of All Things
âYet once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens.â (v.26)
Everything not rooted in Christ will fall.
Thatâs mercy.
Heâs clearing the debris so only the eternal remains.
đ Let Us Be Grateful
âTherefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shakenâŠâ (v.28)
Let the world shake.
Let powers fall.
Let chaos run its course.
You cannot be shakenâbecause the Kingdom you belong to wonât budge.
â…and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and aweâŠâ
Not flippant.
Not emotional showmanship.
But aweâbecause…
â…our God is a consuming fire.â (v.29)
