📜Hebrews 11 – The Hall of Faith

🌌 What Is Faith?

“Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” (v.1)

Faith isn’t blind—it sees what eyes can’t.
It hopes, because it knows the One it trusts.
And through it, everything else makes sense.

“By it the people of old received their commendation.” (v.2)

They pleased God not by what they accomplished,
  but by who they trusted.

🛠️ By Faith…

Let the roll call begin:

🔨 Abel

“Offered to God a more acceptable sacrifice…” (v.4)
He gave his best, not leftovers. He still speaks by faith.

🌿 Enoch

“…was taken up so that he should not see death…” (v.5)
He walked with God—and just kept walking… right into Heaven.

“Without faith it is impossible to please him…” (v.6)

It doesn’t say “difficult.”
  It says impossible.
Faith is the doorway to intimacy with God.

🛶 Noah

“…constructed an ark… by this he condemned the world and became an heir of righteousness…” (v.7)

He built a ship in sunshine. Because God said rain was coming.
  That’s faith.

🏕️ Abraham

“Obeyed… went out not knowing where he was going.” (v.8)

He pitched tents, never permanent homes.
He was waiting for a better city—the one God built.

👶 Sarah

“…since she considered him faithful who had promised.” (v.11)

Not because she was strong, but because He was faithful.

🧭 Seeking a Better Country

“…they acknowledged that they were strangers and exiles on the earth.” (v.13)

They weren’t trying to build a kingdom here.
  They looked ahead—to God’s country.

“…God is not ashamed to be called their God…” (v.16)

What a line.
To have God say, “They’re mine—and I’m proud of it.”

⚔️ More Heroes

  • Abraham offered up Isaac—trusting God would raise him (v.17–19).
  • Moses’ parents defied Pharaoh (v.23).
  • Moses chose mistreatment with God’s people over wealth in Egypt (v.24–26).
  • He left Egypt by faith, not fear (v.27).
  • They passed through the Red Sea, while Egypt drowned (v.29).
  • Jericho’s walls fell when they marched, not when they fought (v.30).
  • Rahab, the prostitute, believed—and was spared (v.31).

Then it just starts rushing

đź’Ą Rapid-Fire Faith

“Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, Samuel and the prophets…” (v.32)

Who…

“…through faith conquered kingdoms, enforced justice, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions…” (v.33)
â€śâ€¦escaped the edge of the sword, were made strong out of weakness…” (v.34)

They weren’t all perfect.
  Many were deeply flawed.

But they trusted.

đź’” Others Were Tortured

Not all victories looked like triumph.

“Others were tortured… mocked… chained… sawn in two…” (v.35–37)

The world didn’t deserve them.

“…of whom the world was not worthy—wandering about in deserts and mountains…” (v.38)

This is the part most people skip.

But not us.
We read it and we weep—because this is our legacy too.

🤝 Not Without Us

“And all these, though commended through their faith, did not receive what was promised…” (v.39)

Why?

“…since God had provided something better for us, that apart from us they should not be made perfect.” (v.40)

We’re part of this.
This isn’t just their story—it’s ours too.

Their journey culminates in Christ—and in us, those born of the Spirit.
