From Genesis to Glory — Section 5: The Coming Deception

Of all the signs Jesus gave for the last days, none appears more frequently than this one: “Take heed that no man deceive you.” (Matthew 24:4) He repeated the warning multiple times in the same discourse. It was not a minor footnote. It was the opening line, the framing concern, the thing He most wanted His people to guard against.

The reason is straightforward. Deception is the enemy’s primary weapon in the end times — not military force, not economic pressure, not persecution alone. The great strategy is spiritual confusion, the dismantling of the ability to discern truth from counterfeit. And that strategy has been running for a very long time.

The Conditioning Has Been Underway

The final great deception will not arrive in a vacuum. It will arrive as the culmination of decades of preparation. The culture of this world has been systematically conditioned to reject absolute truth, to distrust institutions, to embrace spiritual experience divorced from doctrinal substance, and to welcome a unifying voice that transcends all divisions.

Humanism displaced the authority of God with the authority of man. Postmodernism dissolved the concept of objective truth. Syncretism blended incompatible spiritual systems into a comfortable spiritual soup. The result is a generation genuinely unable to evaluate competing truth claims because the category of truth itself has been eroded.

When the man of lawlessness arrives, this ground will have been prepared for him. He will not need to argue people into following him. They will be ready to receive him — desperate for stability, unity, and solutions — and he will come offering all three.

False Signs and Wonders

The Antichrist and the False Prophet will not rely on rhetoric alone. Revelation 13:13-14 tells us they will perform actual signs and wonders — not illusions or sleight of hand, but real supernatural manifestations powered by Satan himself. People will be in awe. Even those who once doubted the supernatural will become true believers — just not in the truth.

The modern fascination with the paranormal, with alien intervention, with ancient advanced civilizations and hidden wisdom, with a universal consciousness accessible to the spiritually evolved — all of this is laying the ground for an all-inclusive deception that will offer supernatural confirmation to the lie. When the rapture occurs and millions vanish, the explanations offered will be spiritually charged and powerfully persuasive. Expect them to be scientific-sounding, supernatural in appearance, and utterly void of Christ.

The False Religious System

Revelation 17 describes a false religious system — the great harlot — that rides the beast. This is not merely a political movement but a spiritual one, a global religious convergence that partners with the Antichrist’s system. It is already being assembled under the banners of tolerance, coexistence, and shared spiritual values.

The False Prophet will be the spiritual face of this system — performing signs, directing worship toward the Beast, enforcing the mark, and presenting himself as a man of peace and spiritual authority. He may appear before the world as a religious leader of enormous influence, credible precisely because he seems so reasonable, so inclusive, so divine.

Scripture is unmoved by the appearance: “There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12) Any gospel that removes the cross, the blood, and the resurrection is not a variant of Christianity. It is its replacement.

The Mark and the Lie

Revelation 13:15-18 describes an image that is given breath and the ability to speak, and a mark without which no one may buy or sell. This is not primarily an economic system, though it will function as one. It is fundamentally an act of worship and allegiance — a seal of loyalty to the Beast that mirrors, in a perverse inversion, the seal of the Holy Spirit on the believer.

The infrastructure for this system is nearly complete. Global digital identity frameworks, biometric verification, programmable digital currency, AI-driven surveillance — the technological pieces are already in place. What remains is the political and spiritual architecture to activate them as a unified system of control.

Those who take the mark will not do so in ignorance. Scripture makes clear that the warning will be given (Revelation 14:9-11). The choice will be made knowingly. And the consequence is eternal: those who worship the Beast and receive his mark are forever separated from God.

The Strong Delusion

Perhaps the most sobering element of this entire prophetic picture is what Paul writes in 2 Thessalonians 2:11-12: God Himself will send a strong delusion to those who refused to love the truth, so that they may believe the lie and be condemned.

This is a judicial act. It is not arbitrary cruelty. It is the sealing of a direction that was freely chosen. Those who consistently preferred the comfortable lie over the uncomfortable truth, who had every opportunity to receive the gospel and turned away from it — God gives them, finally and permanently, what they chose. The strong delusion is the endpoint of a trajectory, not its beginning.

The warning it contains for the present moment is serious and specific. A generation trained to prefer emotional experience over doctrinal substance, personal narrative over revealed truth, is conditioning itself for exactly this outcome. The antidote is not more information. It is love of the truth — the willingness to receive what God has actually said, even when it costs something.

“For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions.” — 2 Timothy 4:3

This is not a time for casual faith or borrowed conviction. The deception is already at work. Only those rooted in the Word, walking in the Spirit, and genuinely surrendered to Christ will be able to stand when the full force of it arrives.
