In Malachi 3, the Lord is described not only as a coming judge—but as a refiner of silver.
“He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver, and He will purify the sons of Levi and refine them like gold and silver…” (Malachi 3:3)
This refining isn’t about destruction—it’s about transformation. The fire doesn’t consume the silver. It cleanses it. It burns away every impurity, every imperfection, until only one thing remains:
The reflection of the one who tends the fire.
In a beautiful illustration shared by Matt Mason on the Lion of Fire YouTube channel, a man observing a silversmith asked, “How do you know when the silver is ready?”
The silversmith smiled and said:
“That’s easy—when I see my image in it.”
And so it is with us.
God doesn’t leave us in the fire alone. He watches every moment. He tends the flame. And He knows precisely when to bring us out—when His Son’s image shines through us.
The hardships, the trials, the weariness of life? They’re not wasted. They’re the very tools God uses to purify our hearts. He doesn’t desire our performance—He desires our purity. And when that purity reflects Christ, then our worship becomes acceptable. Then our offerings rise like incense.
So if you’re in the fire right now, remember this:
You’re not being burned. You’re being refined.
And when He sees His image in you, radiant and unmistakable… He’ll know.
You’re ready.
