🧠 Summary

Jesus crosses the Sea of Galilee, and a large crowd follows Him because of the signs He has performed. Seeing the crowd, Jesus tests Philip by asking where to buy bread. Philip is unsure, but Andrew mentions a boy with five barley loaves and two fish.

Jesus takes the loaves and fish, gives thanks, and distributes them to the crowd of about 5,000 men, with leftovers filling twelve baskets. Recognizing the miracle, the people want to make Jesus king by force, so He withdraws to the mountain alone.

Later, the disciples set out across the sea, and Jesus walks on the water to meet them, calming their fears.

The next day, the crowd seeks Jesus, and He tells them they are looking for Him not because of the signs but because they ate their fill. He urges them to seek the food that endures to eternal life.

When they ask for a sign, mentioning manna from heaven, Jesus declares Himself as the true Bread of Life, sent from heaven to give life to the world. He explains that whoever eats His flesh and drinks His blood will have eternal life.

This teaching is hard for many, and as a result, many disciples turn away. Jesus asks the Twelve if they will leave too, but Peter responds with faith, acknowledging Jesus as the Holy One of God.

💬 Reflection

John 6 challenges us to move beyond seeking miracles to embracing the deeper truth of who Jesus is. The feeding of the 5,000 shows His provision, but the true gift is Himself—the Bread of Life.

Jesus invites us to a relationship that satisfies our deepest hunger, not just our immediate needs. This chapter reminds us that following Jesus may be difficult, but He alone has the words of eternal life.
